The New Arrivals

Early pioneers leave Keeney pass and travel on to Vale and the hot waters of the Malheur River.

β€œIn the last five months, we have journeyed over fifteen hundred miles. Today is another hot dry day. As we leave Keeney Pass, it is hard to keep our spirits up. We have left loved ones and precious items behind. Our food supply is running low. We are weary. How wonderful it will be to reach the hot springs on the banks of the Malheur River to relax and wash away some of the dust.”

This was the first Mural commissioned by the Vale Heritage Reflections Mural Society in 1993 in celebration of the Oregon Sesquicentennial.
