The Hunters

Two hunters return to the wagon train after a successful hunt.

In order to keep the lumbering wagon trains moving, skilled hunters were constantly searching for game. Food became scarce along the Oregon Trail requiring the hunters to go long distances. Animal hides were used for leather, moccasins and clothes. Hunters, also acting as scouts, located water, food for the livestock, and providing early warning of dangers ahead.
