Vale's first school built in 1887.

The first school district in Malheur County was formed in Vale in 1887. It was comprised of a one room school located in the area south of the present Elementary School. The duties of the teachers were all encompassing and included students of all ages. In 1906, a two room school was constructed of native sandstone and a four-room addition was added in 1908. By 1910, the little one room school with one teacher, had grown to include a high school with six teachers.
