The Hot Springs

The joy of a bath in the hot springs of the Malheur River.

"Pa, this is so much fun, can we stay?"

"Yes, for awhile but then we must move on."

Beginning in 1841, thousands of emigrants traveled the two thousand miles from Independence, Missouri, to Oregon City, Oregon. It was here on the banks of the Malheur River, unaware of the watchful eye of the Paiute Indians, that the early travelers stopped to rest, bathe and do laundry in the local hot springs.
